Military families - New Scam involving your overseas spouse

Tools

By Gloria Bratton

A new warning from the American Red Cross of an identity scam targeting military family members of deployed troops.

The scam involves a person calling a military spouse, identifying themselves as a representative of the Red Cross and tell the spouse their husband has been injured in Iraq.

But in order for them to begin medical treatment they need paperwork to be filled out including the husbands social security number and date of birth.

No word on how many families have been targeted so far.

We put a call into the local chapter and they tell us no reports of this scam have been filed here in the county.
