STOCKTON, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a suspect in an Oakland double murder killed himself as a SWAT team surrounded a Stockton house.

Police say 34-year-old Damon Ferreira, also known as Damon Keen, fatally shot Damon Wessel and Michael Caldwell inside their Oakland apartment on Sept. 23. A third man was shot during the attack and survived.

Oakland police Sgt. Gus Galindo says Ferreira may have opened fire because he mistakenly believed the men were downloading voicemails, text messages and other information from his cell phone without his permission.

San Joaquin County Sheriff's SWAT team members were trying to make contact with Ferreira on Wednesday morning when he apparently committed suicide.

Galindo says the semi-automatic pistol found with Ferreira appears to be the same weapon used in the Oakland shootings.
