Swine flu claims 10th victim in Kern County
By Jose Gaspar, Eyewitness News
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Kern County Public Health officials have confirmed the death of a 47-year-old Bakersfield woman is related to the H1N1 virus, also known as swine flu.
The woman was hospitalized at Mercy Hospital in downtown. She becomes the 10th person to die from swine flu in Kern County so far this year. Meanwhile, the effort to vaccinate against swine flu continues. Around 1,200 doses were administered Tuesday at a vaccine clinic at North High School. County health officials aren't sure exactly when more vaccine will be arriving, only to say the next batch could come at any time. Private providers are also starting to get the vaccine, and that is expected to reduce the long lines of people at county-run vaccine clinics. |
