A fatal crash forces Bakersfield Police to close a major Southwest Bakersfield road.

The crash happened on White Lane between Pin Oak and Gosford Road just after 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Officers say the driver of a white Honda, 24 year-old Nagib Muthana of Bakersfield,was heading west on White Lane near Gosford when he lost control of his vehicle. The car crashed into the center divider and then a tree. It crossed several lanes and ended up on the eastbound side of White Lane.

One person, a 19 year-old Luis Alberto Palacios of Bakersfield, was taken to Mercy Southwest Hospital with major injuries. He later died. Muthana suffered minor injuries.

Bakersfield Police shut down White Lane in the area for several hours to investigate the accident. At this point, alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
