Firefighters contain Fresno blaze
By Associated Press
FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — Firefighters have contained a blaze in Fresno that destroyed one house, damaged another and forced residents of several more homes to evacuate.
Authorities say the fire along the San Joaquin River that started shortly before 4 p.m. Thursday was contained by 9:30 p.m. Fresno Fire Department spokesman Ken Shockley said the fire was among the city's worst and was complicated by wind, heat and steep terrain. Eighty-five firefighters, including members of the U.S. Forest Service, were called in to battle the blaze. Residents were also seen spraying water to try to prevent its spread. The cause of the fire is under investigation. ___ Information from: The Fresno Bee |
