Bakersfield College receives historic donation
Bakersfield College has just received the largest single donation to a community college in California history.
In a ceremony Wednesday morning Dr. Norman Levan donated $5.7 million dollars. Dr. Levan received a standing ovation from his friends, patients and Bakersfield College Administration.
$1million dollars of the money is set aside for student scholarships and $200,000 will go to first year students who win an essay contest. $3.5 million to renovate the Humanities Building which will be renamed the Norman Levan Center of Humanities and Medicine. $1million will be used to develop a lifelong senior program.
Dr. Levan choose B.C. because he says it's unique and holds everyone to higher standards. "It's a great honor to be able to do something for Bakersfield College. Bakersfield College is a very much a pearl of the Valley."
Dr. Levan has worked in Bakersfield as a dermatologist for over 20 years.
