A pair of apartment residents were robbed at gunpoint Wednesday by a man impersonating a police officer.

The suspect reportedly kicked in the front door of an apartment on the 800 block of New Stine Road and yelled "Bakersfield Police Department."

The victims, an unidentified adult man and woman, told police that the suspect wore a badge around his neck and brandished a firearm. The suspect went into a bedroom, stole a wallet and ran out of the apartment, according to a Bakersfield Police news release.

The male victim chased the suspect, who jumped into the cab of a U-Haul truck that was parked in a nearby alley. The victim broke the U-Haul's passenger-side window, pulled the badge from around the suspect's neck and recovered some of the contents of the stolen wallet.

The badge read "bail enforcement officer," according to the news release.

The suspect is described as a white man, 28-30 years old, 5-foot-9, 180 pounds, blond hair, mustache with a tattoo on the left side of his neck.

Police say there is no known connection between this robbery and recent incidents of motorists being pulled over in southwest Bakersfield by police impostors.

In the earlier incidents, victims were pulled over by an unmarked car that was equipped with a spotlight and red and blue lights. The police impersonator ordered the victims, all men of eastern Indian descent, to strip down to their underwear before the suspects drove away.

Anyone with information about any of the police impostor incidents are asked to call Bakersfield Police at (661) 327-7111.
