McFARLAND, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of molesting a girl over a period of years.

Miguel Herrera, 39, of McFarland, faces 34 felony charges and is being held in Kern County jail with bail set at $3.4 million. Herrera was booked into jail on open charges, according to the sheriff's department, and the criminal charges could change at the discretion of the district attorney.

Officers in McFarland were alerted Monday to the alleged molestation. They determined Herrera had molested the girl, now a teenager, since she was 11.

An emergency protective order was issued against Herrera, who has frequent contacts with the girl, police said Friday.

Herrera admitted to detectives that he molested the girl, according to police.

The sheriff's office shows Herrera faces 15 counts of continuous sexual abuse of child and 19 counts of lewd and lascivious acts with child under 14 with force.
