3 charged in slaying of 8-year-old Oakland girl

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Three people have been charged in connection with the slaying of an 8-year-old Oakland girl, who was fatally shot after answering the front door at her friend's apartment during a sleepover.

Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O'Malley said Tuesday 22-year-old Darnell Williams fired the shots that killed Alaysha Carradine and wounded three others on July 17. Also arrested were 27-year-old Joe Carroll and Laquana Nuno.

Williams and Carroll were charged with murder; Nuno was charged as an accessory. They were scheduled to enter pleas on Tuesday in Alameda County Superior Court.

Investigators believe the shootings were gang-related and in retaliation for a shooting hours earlier in Berkeley.
