2nd suspect found guilty of elderly woman's death

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) - One of three men accused of killing a 71-year-old woman during a robbery has been found guilty of first-degree murder.

Guadalupe Ramos was attacked in August 2012 outside the Foods Co. grocery store on Haley Street. An alleged gangster came up behind Ramos and ripped a gold chain from her neck. That knocked the frail woman to the ground, causing fatal injuries. Ramos suffered emotion-precipitated sudden cardiac death and blows to her trunk and extremities, the coroner's office said.

Christopher Patterson, 19, has been identified as the man who allegedly carried out the robbery. He was arrested and next has a competency trial set for May 6.

Thursday, a jury convicted co-conspirator 28-year-old Lawrence Slaughter.

A jury previously found 26-year-old Maxamillon McDonald guilty. He drove the getaway car that night.

Both Slaughter and McDonald were active members of the East Side Crips, according to the Kern County District Attorney's Office. Slaughter was also on parole and was wearing a GPS ankle monitor that placed him at the scene of the deadly robbery.

Both men who have been convicted could be sentenced to life in prison.
