Woman injured in bear attack
An investigation is underway into an bear attack in the Walker Basin area Tuesday morning. The attack happened around 10 a.m.

The victim is 57 year-old Allena Hansen of Twin Oaks. She was walking her two dogs in the Walker Basin area when she was attacked by a bear.

One of her dogs was killed; the other was able to escape. Hansen received cuts to her head and face, but was able to walk back to her car and drive nearly four miles to the Kern County Fire Station in Piute.

The fire crew tended to Hansen's injuries, and she was airlifted to University of California, Los Angeles Medical Center.

Walker Basin is between Tehachapi and Lake Isabella. This is also the same area where the Piute Fire has been burning for the past few weeks. Officials had warned for people to be on the lookout for bears because of the wildfire.

Initial reports suggested the bear had been caught, but Eyewitness News has learned that is not the case.
