The Food and Drug Administration has issued a warning about tomatoes, linked to a Salmonella outbreak.

A unique strain of salmonella called Saint Paul has been identified to have caused 145 suspected outbreaks nationwide. Locally some businesses are pulling their tomatoes as a precautionary measure while others continue business as usual.

Temporary tomato outage signs can be found posted at many fast food chains today including McDonalds, Arby's and Jack in the Box.

According to the signs, there is a product advisory coming from the Center for Disease Control.

Jack in the Box was one of the first to post the sign earlier last week and as others were putting their signs up, Jack in the Box took theirs down today.

Management at the fast food chain tells Eyewitness News that they were authorized to continue serving tomatoes.

We wanted to find out what consumers thought about the inconsistency of not all places pulling the tomatoes.

Tom Bettis, a Consumer, "It's nice to have places that worry about your health and voluntarily take them of the market when there is a scare like this"

Leonna Kennedy, a Consumer, "Yes I think if there is a problem they should remove all of them, I work in a hospital and wouldn't want to see people coming in sick.>

The specific type and source of tomatoes are under investigation however preliminary information suggests that raw red Plum, raw red Roma or raw Round tomatoes are the cause.

So to stay on the safe side, stick to Cherry tomatoes, Grape tomatoes and the ones still on the vine.

At this time there are no reported cases of illness locally.
