California Supreme Court rules Arizona group must disclose donors

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX ) -- Political donors in California have to identify themselves following a state Supreme Court ruling handed down Sunday.

The justices ruled unanimously that donors from Americans for Responsible Leadership must give the names of those responsible for its $11 million contribution to defeat Governor Brown's tax initiative, Proposition 30.

California Fair Practices Political Commission brought the legal action after it discovered the group had not revealed the donors' identities.

California rules require nonprofits to disclose donors if the money is earmarked for a specific initiative.
