BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — City buses will operate on new routes starting Sunday.
"The routes will be faster and more efficient," Gina Hayden, marketing and business development manager for Golden Empire Transit District, said in a news release. "There will more service in areas where GET has the largest number of customers. Weekend service has also increased."
Two routes, the Nos. 21 and 22, will operate every 15 minutes north and south from North Chester to Ming Avenue and east and west from Bakersfield College to California State University, Bakersfield, according to GET.
The new system is the result of a long-range transit study in partnership with Kern Council of Governments.
GET operates 88 compressed natural gas buses over 160 square miles of metropolitan Bakersfield. It services more than 7 million annual passengers on 19 routes.
