Hit the links, help a horse

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Bit-O-Heaven Horse Rescue Ranch hopes you'll tee it up to benefit their program that takes in starving and neglected horses and gives them another chance at a life in a loving, nurturing home.

The annual golf tournament takes place Friday at Buena Vista Golf Course, 10256 Golf Course Road in Taft. There is a 9 a.m. shotgun start, best-ball scramble, lunch, raffle and cash prizes

Since 1997, Bit-O-Heaven has taken in 75 horses that were near death and had been left to starve or suffered severe neglect. Through the hard work of volunteers, veterinarians and the generosity of this community, organizers say these horses were saved and placed safe, permanent homes.

"The cost of feed, special formulas for aging horses and medical care has skyrocketed this past year as the world economy has declined," says Tracy Totton Matrin, who owns the facility near Lake Buena Vista along with her husband R.T. Martin. "It's only through your tax-exempt donations to our 501(c)3 organization that we are able to continue feeding and housing these wonderful, loving animals."
