BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A security guard was shot Sunday night while trying to stop beer thieves at Foods Co. on White Lane, police said.

Two men allegedly shoplifted a pair of 36 packs of beer. The store's uniformed security guard followed the men to the parking lot, and third man allegedly got out of a car and fired several shots, striking the guard once.

The guard's wound wasn't considered life-threatening, police said. His name was withheld.

The alleged thieves and shooter were described as Hispanic men in their 20s, driving a dark 1990s Honda Civic hatchback or similar vehicle.

The suspects are considered armed and dangerous, police said. Anyone with knowledge of their identities or whereabouts is asked to call police at (661) 327-7111.
