Man mowing lawn sets off wildfire in Kern mountains
CALIENTE, Calif. — A man mowing the lawn in his backyard accidentally caused a wildfire when a spark hit nearby dry brush.

About 12 homes were threatened, but none were burned.

The fire is located in a remote area near Twin Oaks in the Piute area.

Capt. Derek Tisinger says the blaze broke out shortly before 2:30 p.m. Monday. Firefighters have requested support from three air tankers.

Tisinger did not immediately know the size of the fire, but said it had potential to spread through dry brushland.

The fire is located between Lake Isabella and Tehachapi.
