2 named by Gov. to Kern County Fair Board

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Two Bakersfield residents have received gubernatorial appointments.

Both men have been named to the 15th District Agricultural Association, Kern County Fair Board, Gov. Jerry Brown's office said Friday.

Cesar Chavez, 31, has served on the board since 2003. Chavez has been general manager at Farmworkers Educational Radio Network since 2009. He was program director at the National Farm Workers Service Center Inc. from 1999 to 2009. Chavez is a member of the Foundation for Success Board of Directors. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Chavez is a Democrat.

Michael Young, 39, has been a partner at Wegis and Young since 1995. He served as president of the Kern County Farm Bureau from 2005 to 2007. Young is a Republican.
