Clovis police kill suspect in 2 overnight slayings

CLOVIS, Calif. (AP) — Police in California are investigating a double murder that was followed by an officer-involved shooting of the alleged gunman.

Clovis police spokeswoman Janet Stoll-Lee said officers shot a 40-year-old man whom they believe is responsible for two murders Friday.

Stoll-Lee says the officers found two people dead at two houses across the street from each other just after midnight. While performing a safety check, the officers were confronted by a man who walked up to them holding a shotgun.

Two of the officers shot him and he died three hours later at Community Regional Medical Center. Names of the victims and gunman have not been released.

Officials say the gunman also rang the doorbell and banged on the door of a nearby convent. He entered the church and shot at a crucifix.
