BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Funeral services were held Tuesday morning for a 23-year-old Bakersfield police officer who died of a heart attack.
Officer Trevor Jones started experiencing chest pains March 20 at his home. He was taken to Mercy Southwest Hospital for treatment and died around 9:30 p.m. that night.
The acute heart attack was caused by a blood clot, according to the Kern County coroner's office.
Jones' funeral at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was held five days before he was set to marry his fiancée Ashley Van Zandt.
"God had a plan for him or needed him more than we did," Van Zandt told Eyewitness News last week.
