13-year-old Bakersfield girl found in San Diego area with convicted felon

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A 13-year-old girl from Bakersfield ran away with a 21-year-old convicted felon she met through Facebook, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported Thursday.

The girl was found Thursday at a Chula Vista apartment where she had been staying with Jonathan Nunez, who was arrested on suspicion of statutory rape and for being a felon in possession of a loaded firearm and ammunition, according to the newspaper's report.

The pair had reportedly been together since March 10. They met through the social media site in the wake of the death of the girl's brother, who knew Nunez, U-T San Diego reported.

Bakersfield police haven't released any information on the case. U-T San Diego cites Chula Vista Police Lt. Scott Arsenault.

The newspaper reported that Nunez had been convicted of grand theft and was on probation.
