Running stop sign could be to blame in fatal Shafter crash
SHAFTER, Calif. — The driver of a Nissan Altima died Friday morning after pulling in front of a utility truck traveling an estimated 50-55 mph.

Samy Mikhael Samweel Kaldas, 30, of Bakersfield, died instantly, according to the coroner's office.
The California Highway Patrol said Kaldas either pulled in front of the truck or ran through a stop sign at Cherry Avenue and Burbank Street southeast of Shafter. Preliminary witness testimony indicates he simply didn't stop.
There was no stop sign for the truck's driver, who was taken to a hospital with complaints of chest pain, according to the CHP.
The truck driver's name was not immediately released.
