BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A 27-year-old Bakersfield man was killed late Christmas Eve after losing control of his vehicle on South Union Avenue north of Old Yard Drive.
"The driver allowed the vehicle to travel onto the right shoulder where it struck a concrete curb," said a news release from the California Highway Patrol. It then hit a building and continued traveling south, hitting another building which tore the roof off the vehicle.
It then crashed through a chain link fence into a tow yard where it struck three parked vehicles before crashing through another fence and coming to rest.
The driver was reportedly pinned inside. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was later identified by coroner's investigators as Ariel Paredez.
A passenger refused transport. He was identified as 31-year-old Leno Paredez.
