1 dead in northeast Bakersfield crash
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — One person died Wednesday night in a crash at Columbus Street and University Avenue.

A sergeant on scene said the investigation was in its early stages, but they knew the car was westbound on University just before 4:30 p.m. when it hit a brick wall.

The only injury or fatality was the man driving the car. His name was later released by coroner's investigators as 48-year-old Edwardo Madrigal Alvarez of Pixley.

A witness told Eyewitness News that they saw the car traveling very fast, but officers haven't determined the speed.

A department news release said the dead driver may have been chasing a white sedan before the crash, possibly a Dodge Charger. That vehicle was not involved in the crash, but officers would like to speak to the people in the car.

Anyone with information is asked to call senior officer Chris Bagby at 661-326-3967.
