1 dead in crash on Hwy. 184 in Kern County

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — One person was killed Monday morning in a head-on crash south of Lamont.

A California Highway Patrol officer on scene said a Lexus car was heading north on Highway 184 around 5 a.m. when the driver, later identified as 21-year-old Jovanna Salgado, of Arvin, said she fell asleep and drifted into the southbound lane. The Lexus crashed into an oncoming minivan.

The driver of the van, later identified as 40-year-old Horacio Cabrera, of Bakersfield, died.

Salgado sustained a major injury to her leg, the CHP said.

Four van passengers received varying degrees of injuries. They were identified as Saul Gomez, Antonio Solares, Johnathan Alonso and Modesto Dominguez, all of Bakersfield. One van passenger, 19-year-old Alfredo Dominguez, was not injured.
