BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The struggling economy has forced thousands to collect unemployment insurance just to survive. One woman found frustration in clogged phone lines while trying to register for the aid.

Faye Poulin is in the position that many people in Kern County find themselves in, out of work and looking for a way to support her family. In late May, Poulin's job with a local school district ended.

She planned on using her unemployment aid to help her get through in the lean time. Filling for unemployment turned out to be a challenge she wasn't prepared for.

Poulin said she's repeatedly tried calling to register for unemployment only to get an automated message that the system was overloaded and that she would have to call again later.
