Stolen van, trash, tires - all found at illegal Bakersfield dump site
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The area behind the Hillcrest Cemetery in east Bakersfield has become an illegal dumping ground for trash, tires, mattresses and other unwanted items.

A van that had been reported stolen was also found there, stripped of everything of value.

One resident, whose property backs up to the area, is upset, saying that they don’t even want to use the area for jogging or playing with their dogs because of the trash. He says not only is the trash becoming overwhelming, but people gather there at night and make fires.

A Kern County Code Compliance spokeswoman says a complaint must be filed before an officer will go out to the site and look for evidence.

If the party responsible for dumping is identified, then they will be contacted to clean the area, or the county can hire a vendor to clean if that fails.

This location is right on the edge of Bakersfield city limits, so the county is working to determine whether it will be up to it or the city to take action.
