BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Residents in an apartment complex in east Bakersfield are without electricity after the fire department shut the power off in response to an electrical blaze.

The fire appears to have been caused by improper wiring.

According to Kern County Code Enforcement, the residents can remain in the apartments for up to 72 hours without electricity. Some of the apartments do have gas heaters, but others do not. Many of the residents are concerned about the lack of power with the colder temperatures and so many children living there.

Tenants also have complaints about other living conditions, such as pests, mold, leaking water and malfunctioning heaters.

Property manager Kim Nunoz lives on the premises but was not reachable Friday by either phone or a personal visit.
