Stockdale construction snarls traffic
By Betsy Lambert, Eyewitness News
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Road construction on Stockdale Highway is causing a major headache for drivers.
A portion of the road between Highway 99 and California Avenue has been reduced to just one lane each way so crews can repave the mile-long area. Rick Millwee, construction superintendent for the city of Bakersfield, said that area of road was tested and determined to be completely deteriorated. So, the entire stretch will be torn up and eight inches of new pavement will be laid. Millwee said crews hope to have the road opened to two lanes by Thanksgiving and the project completed by the middle or end of December. |
