BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Haley Shadden was suspended Friday from Actis Jr. High School after taking pictures of a fight she witnessed just one day before.

In addition to her suspension, she was stripped of her title as school president, removed from the Where Everybody Belongs leadership club and barred from being part of "Actis Live," a broadcast show on campus.

The reason for her suspension was "promoting" a fight, according to Gerri Kincaid, assistant superintendent for Panama-Buena Vista Union School District. Taking pictures of the fight is considered "promoting the fight" and violates school codes, specifically ones pertaining to disruption activities, Kincaid said.

Haley and her father said they feel the punishment is too severe and don't understand why she is being disciplined when she wasn't involved in the fight and it happened after school.

Although Haley's father tried to argue their case, they were told the suspension, and the stripping of privileges, would be final.
