DELANO, Calif. -- Wilfredo Cervantes says the post office is refusing to deliver his mail after he made some home improvements.

After using a temporary mailbox that was wired to a fence for years, Cervantes says he finally went down to a local hardware store and bought the supplies to build a new one. He put the new box up a few feet down the sidewalk from the old one.

A few days later he received one letter in that mailbox, and it was the only letter he would receive. It was from the United States Post Office.

"They are complaining, they sent me a letter saying they are not delivering my mail," says Cervantes.

Cervantes says the letter claimed the reason for the stopped delivery was because it would delay the mail carrier's route.

Eyewitness News conducted an unscientific test by walking the distance from where the old mailbox was to the next house and then walking from where the new mailbox is to the next house. It measured out to be the same distance.

James Wigdel, spokesman for the United States Post Office, says they are looking into the situation. Wigdel also says if anyone would like to move their mailbox they are required to send plans to their postmaster first. Each Request will be reviewed on a case-to-case basis.
