BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- A railroad crossing on Buena Vista Road is causing some residents to be very concerned.

The crossing has no guard arms and some drivers say the lights are out, so when trains come there is no way of knowing.

"(The engineer) has to stop and blast his horn until everyone else sees that he's there until he can proceed," said Jenny Ballard, who works at a church near the tracks.

"A lot of times, they're trying to beat the train," Ballard said, referring to motorists. "It's just kind of scary for us and the children to watch it."

A city official said Friday that there's a plan to widen the road and put up guard arms and new lights. Construction will be completed before spring, the official said.
