Family unhappy crash suspect is free
By Betsy Lambert, Eyewitness News
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- The woman blamed for a fatal drinking and driving crash was released from jail two days later.
The family of victim Carey Curtis said Monday that they're upset Teresa Pina was set free. "I don't understand why she got out of jail, because she did a lot of things wrong that night," said Curtis' 12-year-old daughter Kylie. Pina was arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter June 7, but officials with the Kern County District Attorney's Office said they needed more time to investigate the crash. Curtis was driving home from her shift at Kern Medical Center when the crash occurred at Wible and Wilson roads, just south of Valley Plaza Mall. Bakersfield police said they're investigating the crash in more detail and plan to turn the case back over the the district attorney's office when the investigation is complete. The victim's family has opened up an account at Kern Schools Federal Credit Union to help with expenses. |
