BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- While law enforcement agencies throughout the state look for Zeus Sanchez, officials with the Superior Court of Kern County are facing some tough questions.
Sanchez, 23, of Los Angeles, was arrested in April on suspicion of committing a residential robbery on the 7900 block of Calle Torcido. He had been in jail since then but was released from jail last week because of a court clerical error, according to Bakersfield police. Sanchez is facing 11 felony counts, including assault with a firearm on a person and participating in a street gang. Court Executive Officer Terry McNally on Monday said accidental jail releases have only happened three times in his 15 years on the job. Even though they are rare, he said he takes them very seriously and is not going to rest until he figures out how this mistake occurred. "We're an organization of people," McNally said. "People are not infallible. We make mistakes like anybody else." McNally said the court's computer system is old and out of date, but getting a new computer system is on hold because of the states budget crisis. |
