Can pit bulls be trusted as pets? Join the debate
By Anthony Bailey, Eyewitness News
Jewell Driskal, 90, says she was having a problem with pit bull dogs next door.
Driskal says recent maulings by the dogs have made her fear them even more. The family's sad events end up with dogs being taken and owners left crying. "I feel sorry for the people whose children are attacked by them. I think it's a shame on people that will have those kind of dogs," Driskal says. So can an animal initially bred to fight with bulls be trusted? Marilyn Stewart runs the Alpha Canine Sanctuary. She says pit bulls' main mistakes are being too obedient. "They will do anything a person tells them to do, even if that means going against their nature," Stewart says. Stewart says the problem is not the dog, it's the owner. "If you should some how take every pit bull off the face of the earth, it would be a short time before another breed was being exploited," Stewart says. So, can pit bulls be trusted as pets?
