Investigation Follow Up: Man accused of defrauding non-profit groups starts paying
An update to an exclusive Eyewitness News investigation involving a Bakersfield based Catholic Online business. The owner of the business is Michael Galloway.
He is at the center of a Kern county District Attorney complaint alleging "Catholic Financial Services" and three other websites he owns, defrauded Catholic non profit groups across the country and in Canada out of thousands of dollars in donations. Thursday evening, Eyewitness News has learned Galloway is making good on some of what he owes. The Santa Cruz-Monterey Chapter of 'Retrouvaille" a non profit providing help to couples in troubled marriages, says they are now just short $325.00. According to the group, at one point, $15,000 in donations were being held back by CFS, the Catholic Online business that mimicks "Paypal". However, the Hamilton Ontario Canada "Retouvaille" tells us they are still short nearly $5,000 in donations dating back to October 2006. Public records show Michael Galloway's seven oaks grand island home is no longer in default. A notice of default had been filed on his 4,500 square foot home in the well to do neighborhood in March 2008. Plus he has paid off a pair of tax liens totaling over $52,000. However, public records show Galloway still owes the IRS close to $250,000 in back taxes. |
