There is new information on the bad gas sold around Kern County in March. A batch of bad gas came from Kern Oil and Refining. Eyewtiness News checked, and Kern County Weights say about 350,000 gallons of gas were involved in the bad batch, of that, 145,000 gallons were returned to the refinery.

The bad gas went to 25 different stations and just over 200 customers reported their cars were damaged by the gas and the company paid out $250,000 for repairs.

Kern Co. Weights and Measures spokesman Manuel Villacana says the company did respond to those customers. "They did, I think, a really good job. They reimbursed over $250,000 in repairs and we got a lot of calls from consumers saying they were prompt in receiving the check..or having the repairs paid for," said Villacana.

Eyewitness News called the company for their response. Neil Walker e-mailed us the following statement:
"Regarding the recent contaminated gasoline issue, KIern Oil & Refining co. and the Kern County Department of Weights and Measures both answered and responded to consumer complaints in a prompt, responsible and timely manner.
Approximately 350,000 gallons of gasoline were involved, of which 145,000 gallons were recovered and returned to Kern's refinery for reprocessing. Just over 200 consumers were affected, to whom reimbursement for repairs was paid by Kern totaling about $250,000.
As we stated at the time, kern regrets any inconvenience caused to consumers, and we thank them for their patience and understanding as their issues were resolved. Kern also applauds the professional efforts and cooperation of the personnel at weights and measures."

The refinery could still be fined between $10,000 and $25,000 for the bad gas incident. Kern Co. Weights and Measures says they will decide about the penalty by next month.
