Police meet with labor group over Shame On Campaign
The Bakersfield Police Department has met with the non-union labor association to hear complaints about protesters.
The non-union group, the Association of Builders and Contractors (ABC) has filed complaints with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) against the Carpenters Union for alleged assaults against non-union workers by protesters. This includes the Shame On Campaign. As 29 Eyewitness News showed you exclusively, the ABC claims an assault happened last February when a union representative allegedly shoved a construction worker to the ground. On Friday, Eyewitness News spoke with a representative from the Carpenters Union who tells me the allegations of the assault has been investigated by the NRLB and the Bakersfield Police Department and they were dismissed. He says their findings speak for themselves. But an ABC spokesman says the Bakersfield Police Department is reviewing the police report and the 911 call from the alleged assault back in February. On Tuesday, the Bakersfield Police Department, the Bakersfield City Attorney, local contractors and members of the ABC met to discuss the growing tensions at these shame on protests. At the meeting, ABC representatives and local contractors expressed their concerns over police response to the protests. In addition, BPD says they expect to meet with the Carpenter's union. The Carpenters union rep tells Eyewitness News that they have open communications with BPD and says they tell them ahead of time about any planned protests. The protesters have a right to voice their opinions because of first amendment rights. But the ABC says the protests get out of hand and the police department says they'll continue to monitor them. |
