Carpenters Union threatens a local construction company
By Rimmpi Rai, Reporting
It's an exclusive Eyewitness News investigation we've been following for nearly two years where local business owners claiming they're being harassed by picketers carrying the shame on signs. But one of the latest incidents didn't involve picketers.
The Carpenters Union is allegedly taking another approach to protesting non union workers and unfair wages. They sent out this letter which is being interpreted as threatening by a local construction company. Bob Storar of Storar Construction, "I am not going to deal with this and not do anything different than I am doing" . Storar Construction received a letter from the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America also known as Local Union 1506. The letter tells owner Bob Storar the union is aware that Evleth Construction is bidding on one of his projects and they are currently in dispute with Evleth. They go on to say Evleth does not meet labor standards or pay prevailing wages and they flat out ask Storar Construction to not allow Evleth Construction to work on any Storar projects. At the end of the letter it states compliance with the unions request will 'provide the greatest protection against your firm becoming publicly involved in this dispute." Bob Storar, "I also have to worry about my workers and whether they can go in and out of the project without being harassed." Storar tells Eyewitness News a letter like this makes you feel like you have to lookout because something could happen." Storar continues "That my clients should be free to decide who they want to work on their project and he will continue to use the best qualified, cost effective companies". We put in calls to the carpenters union for comment on their alleged strong arm tactics and have not heard back. We'll of course, continue to investigate these cases and let you know of any new developments. |
