BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — San Joaquin Community Hospital has honored Wednesday as a Heart Attack Receiving Center.

Representatives from the American Heart Association bestowed the honor on the hospital, a first in Bakersfield and only the second such honor given to a hospital in California, according to SJCH.

To earn the recognition, the hospital had to obtain status as Accredited Chest Pain Center, become an award-winning chest pain center and demonstrate consistency in performance measures when caring for heart attack patients.

"That is our dedication to the community, to raise the quality of care for heart attack patients," said Stella Williams, SJCH's Chest Pain Center coordinator.
