BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Mercy Hospital Southwest is expanding with a 120-bed patient tower.

Dignity Health Mercy and Memorial Hospitals announced Wednesday that the expansion will allow more space for the emergency department and the addition of cardiac and neuro services.

The drawings are under development and will be submitted to the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development for review, a process that can take up to 18 months.

After that, construction could take two years, the health system said.
