Boil order lifted for Arvin tap water, no bacteria found

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — An order to boil tap water has been lifted in Arvin after tests came back negative for contamination in the public water system.

Residents were warned last week to use only bottled water or boiled tap water to avoid possible bacteria. Kern County health officials worried that contamination occurred when water pipeline was damaged by an uprooted tree during a windstorm.

Crews from the Arvin Community Service District repaired the damage Friday, but the contamination tests didn't come back until Monday. School resumed Monday before the all-clear was given, but restaurants were closed all weekend and most of Monday.

Mayor Jose Flores said the people of Arvin no longer need to take precautions with their tap water.
