High school students in talent, air-band competition this weekend

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A "huge" high school talent competition and air-band competition is this weekend, with the winner taking home $750, according to organizers.

Sponsored by the Bakersfield High School choirs, the Bakersfield PHENOM event will feature competitors from 10 different high schools. Singers, instrumentalists, dancers, actors, bands and air bands will gun for the top spot. The top five will perform at the Kern High School District PEAAK Awards ceremony May 15, according to organizers.

The two-night event begins 7 p.m. Friday at BHS' Harvey Auditorium. Cost to attend that night will be $7. Guest judges will give feedback, and audience members can vote for their favorites. The finalists will advance to the next night's competition, also starting at 7, where they will perform their full number. Cost to attend the finals will be $10.
