Disney to hold Bakersfield casting call for Kevin Costner film

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Walt Disney Studios is holding an opening casting call this weekend in Bakersfield for a film starring Kevin Costner.

The studio wants to cast several smaller supporting roles for the feature film "McFarland."

"Disney is casting a wonderful feel-good family movie inspired by actual events of an unassuming group of boys that joined a cross country team who's lives were forever changed by their accomplishments from running and a beautiful relationship with their coach," a press release from Disney reads.

Variety reports "Costner will play a coach living in a predominantly Hispanic California town who creates a high school track team that must overcome social and physical hurdles to become champions during the 1980s."

Costner will portray the real-life coach Jim White.

The studio is seeking males and females of Latin decent, 17 years old and up. The ability to speak both English and Spanish will be a viewed as a plus, according to Disney.

The casting calls are 6-10 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Holiday Inn, 3927 Marriott Drive, Brighton Room No. 1.
