BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A new Wal-Mart Supercenter could be on tap for north Bakersfield.

The retail giant confirmed a proposal for a store to be built on vacant land just west of Highway 99 and south of Olive Drive. The proposed 180,000-sqaure-foot store would be the fifth Wal-Mart in Bakersfield.

Company officials said the store would add 300 jobs to the local economy.

A construction timeline hasn't been established, but paperwork has been filed with the city.
