BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — San Joaquin Community Hospital has named Doug Duffield its new president and CEO.

Duffield, who comes from Florida, will take over July 15, the hospital said Wednesday.

For the past four years, Duffield served as president and CEO at Florida Hospital Zephyrhills in North Tampa. SJCH says he drastically raised the Florida hospital's consumer and physician satisfaction scores and brought expenses down each year, while increasing the overall quality of patient care and safety.

Duffield also played a key role in raising essential funds for the hospital's charitable foundation, helped expand services, including a comprehensive stroke center, and developed a new brain and spine institute, according to SJCH.

"Doug's leadership in Tampa positively impacted the hospital and community. The hospital realized substantial volume growth and reductions in operating expenses, while other hospitals in the area lost profits," said board chairman Scott Reiner. "His experience will help us successfully face health care reform and perform at a higher level to meet the needs of the Bakersfield community."
