Russo's Books closing store in January; still to sell online

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Russo's Books will close its brick-and-mortar store after the holidays.

The locally owned bookseller has been in business for 24 years. Russo's has operated from The Marketplace on Ming Avenue for the last 17 years.

Owner Mike Russo said he'll continue to sell his 3-million book inventory online, and he remains open to "other options and other opportunities," but they couldn't sustain the store in The Marketplace.

"We still believe in books, and we certainly believe in Bakersfield," Russo said, "so we want to be able to serve our customers as best we can. Unfortunately, that would be online, at least for the temporary."

Russo's Books will close The Marketplace store Jan. 31.
