BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Russo's Books in The Marketplace is getting ready to close its doors for good.
Reporter Josh Helmuth was there to preview a massive sale Thursday to liquidate the bookstore's inventory. Russo's will be permanently closed on Jan. 31 after 24 years of business in Bakersfield.
Mike Russo, the store owner, said the closure is due to the changing business climate, but that Russo's books will still be on sale on their website.
"We still believe in books, and we certainly believe in Bakersfield, so we want to be able to serve our customers as best we can. Unfortunately, that would be online, at least for temporary. We're still looking at other options and opportunites, so if something comes, we'd be open to those, but right now we'll certainly be online and helping people there," said Russo.
Russo said the bookstore has more than 3 million books available online.
