American Tire Distributors signs on for big expansion in Kern County

SHAFTER, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — American Tire Distributors is expanding in Kern County with a 1-million-square-foot center at Paramount Logistics Park.

Construction begins this spring on the build-to-suit facility at Paramount Logistics Park. Other tenants of the logistics park, owned by Roll Real Estate Development, are Target, Formica, The Hillman Group, Baker Hughes and Ross Dress for Less.

The 1.7-million-square-foot Ross Dress for Less distribution center is under construction, with estimated completion in the third quarter. That facility is expected to create more than 1,500 new jobs, according to a news release sent for Roll Real Estate.

The just-announced American Tire Distributors lease at Paramount Logistics Park is worth $119 million over 20 years.

North Carolina-based American Tire Distributors is a big player in the replacement tire market, serving about 70,000 customers across the United States and Canada.

Public relations firm Idea Hall told Eyewitness News on behalf of John Balestra, president of Roll Real Estate, that the $65 million American Tire Distributors building will sit on more than 45 acres and will include 234 trailer stalls, 201 loading docks and nearly 10,000 square feet of office space.

A groundbreaking ceremony is planned for Wednesday.

Since 2007, American Tire has occupied a 176,500-square-foot industrial building at Paramount Logistics Park.
