2 men plead not guilty to selling Countrywide data

By Associated Press

LOS ANGELES (AP) - A former senior analyst for Countrywide Home Loans and another man pleaded not guilty Monday in an alleged scam to download and sell thousands of customers' data from the mortgage lender.

Rene Rebollo Jr., 36, of Pasadena is charged with using Countrywide's computers to download private financial data and sell it to third parties. Wahid Siddiqi, 25, of Thousand Oaks faces a fraud charge for allegedly delivering the data to a confidential FBI witness in exchange for cash.

Prosecutors said Rebollo used a flash drive to download data for about 20,000 customers each week for two years. He allegedly sold the data in batches of 20,000 for $500 and earned a combined $50,000.

It was unclear Monday whether the same customers' data might have been taken more than once.

Rebollo faces five years in prison if convicted. Siddiqi faces 15 years in prison if convicted.

A message left for Rebollo's defense attorney, Michael Severo, was not returned Monday night. Attempts to locate a lawyer for Siddiqi were not successful.
